What is up with these Angry Birds? This addicting puzzle video game has taken over the phone gaming world by storm. But where did it come from and who started it? All this craziness was started by three students from the Helsinki University of Technology. They participated in a mobile game development competition sponsored by Nokia and HP. The three won this competition with the first ever real time commercial multiplayer mobile game. The game was called “King of Cabbage World” or better known now as Mole War. The success of this game compelled the three to create their own company now called Rovio Mobile. In December of 2009 Rovio released Angry Birds. This extremely popular game has been downloaded 42 million times accounting for more than 25% of all total downloads making it one of the most popular games sold in the APP Store.

In the game players use a sling shot to launch these little angry birds at evil green pigs stationed in or on various structures intending to destroy all the pigs on the playing field. As you advance through the game new birds appear with special abilities changing game play to make it more challenging. So why are these birds so angry? I asked myself this question and then realized most people don’t know why. It is because the target characters of the game- the evil green pigs- have stolen all of the birds eggs.
